First Graphics Brief

In college as part of the diagnostic block during the graphics block we were set the challence of creating a piece/pieces which go with the sayings......
  • You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear
  • A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush
  • Nid aur yw pobeth melyn (which translates to English to be "All that glitters isn't gold")
  • Nid da lle gellir gwell ( which translates to English as "It's not your best if you can do better")
These are the pieces that I created, there was no particular medium or format to which had to be followed to successfuly answer the brief, it was up to the individual to decide which direction to take the work. I for obvious reasons decided to answer the brief through photography, keeping the text simple, bold and readable. The photographs are all my own photos, photos that I found to fit the appropriate saying and that conveyd the written words through images.

This last photograph of my cousin is my favourite design, simply because the photo speaks for itself I didn't feel that it was neccessary to use type.

Bonfire night 2010

Bonfire Night my favourite day of the year for photography. I very much enjoy getting out the tripod and setting the slow shutter release, the whole process is unpredictable and exciting. I find it thrilling trying to get the timing of the slow shutter release to the right speed to get the images you want. I love the mystery of taking shot after shot not knowing until the fireworks have finished whether or not I have a single good shot. Thankfully the past two years I have produced a few images that I really like. I very much enjoy the challenge of setting the slow shutter release speed perfectly along with composition to get succesful images.

Baron Hill Mansion, Beaumaris

Baron Hill Mansion located in Beaumaris, Anglesey is a derlelict mansion, the property was abandoned in 1945 by it's owners the Bulkeley family. After the second world war the remaining members of the family were unable to keep up with the high cost of running and keeping a house of such a size. The building I find particulary fascinating is well hidden in a wooded area, the property untouched for years, the overgrown shrubbery infront of the building adds to the eeary atmosphere of an abandoned building in the dark woods.

Graffiti

Graffiti is a real passion of mine I find it very expressive and artistic, I am not someone who finds graffiti to
be something that is disruptive or disrespectful. Graffiti conveys the mood and atmosphere of certain areas and can send you a clear message, not all graffiti has a message or moral however if you look carefully and actually pay attention to some of the incredible artistry on the streets of the Uk and world you will find a a message of some sorts in most pieces.
